Appetizer Catering

Advice for planning your appetizer function

Consider serving appetizers as a casual alternative to a meal.  Set up a “food action” station such as potato latkes cooked on site.  Include some easy dishes such as a sliced beef tenderloin served with two sauces (chimicurri and an herbed mustard/mayo).  Consider drink choices.  Perhaps a chilled sangria or a tub filled with ice and artisanal beers?  And don’t forget some non-alcoholic beverages.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • napkins – about 4 per person per hour or 2 if guests are using small plates.  We supply napkins with most appetizer orders.
  • glasses – enough so that guests can trade a used one for a clean one at least once (or perhaps more)
  • cutlery – 2 forks per person if you are serving items which require forks
WHAT TO SERVE
  • on average, guests will consume about 5 hors d’oeuvres per person per hour for the first 2 hours and 3 per person each additional hour
  • if the party is followed by a meal, then fewer appetizers per hour will be required
  • try to have variety (including some vegetarian options if necessary)
  • if you are serving alcohol try to serve food early so guests aren’t drinking on an empty stomach
  • spread the food through the room to provide for good traffic flow
  • Should you require service for your event please discuss it with our catering manager. We require 2 weeks notice for this. The catering manager can be reached at 667-2202 Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm.
  • We offer a delivery service. For delivery charges and policies please see the “Deliveries & Service” tab.
  • In order to construct a menu and quote we either need to know what you would like to serve or have some indication of your budget.  We also need a date and times for your event, where it will be held and whether or not you will require delivery.

Fine Cheese Assortment
A variety of cheeses to suite your taste and budget. Garnished with fruit and served with bread or crackers.

Locavor Tasting Platter (available Dec. 4, 2017)
3 types of B.C. artisanal cheese,  Schinkenspeck & Hungarian salami made locally from local meat, fresh crostinis, marinated olives, housemade Emmental crackers, fruit, eggplant pickle and artisanal honey.  Suitable for a light meal or as an appetizer.

Raw & Roasted Vegetable Tray
An update of the traditional veggie platter. We lightly steam broccoli & beans, roast yams and potatoes but leave most in their natural state. Served with our housemade roasted garlic dip.

Antipasto platter
House marinated olives, artichoke hearts, cheese & mushrooms.  Roasted vegetables such as red pepper, fennel & eggplant.  Pickled beets. Dolmades.  Served with fresh crostini.

Greek Mezze Platter
Marinated, herbed feta.  Thyme roasted red peppers, Tzatziki, house marinated olives, dolmades & hummus.  Served with toasted housemade pita triangles.

These little pies are savoury, crisp and hold well during a prolonged event. Bite-sized, they are handy at cocktail parties and after-work functions.

Jalapeno Poppers
Fresh jalapenos stuffed with a seasoned mix of cheeses & green onion, wrapped in bacon, and baked to crispy perfection.  Delicious either hot or at room temperature.

Cedar Planked Brie
A 400 gram round of bried topped with roasted garlic and our cranberry chutney.  We bake this at high heat to meld flavours.  Served with fresh crostinis made from our sunflower bread.

Stuffed Endive Leaves
Endive leaves serve as a tasty dish for your choice of smoked salmon with avocado tartar or star anise duck with avocado wasabi cream.  This dish is subject to market availability.
